1. Don't Wait to Update Your Device

Technology evolves every day. Although all of the software update notifications may annoy you, it's best to stay up to date with each release. Not only will those updates improve your user experience, but they are also full of new mobile security features that can keep you safer.

2. Be Careful About Using Public WiFi

Every time you use public WiFi, hackers have the opportunity to steal your personal information. This is why it's crucial to avoid logging into your email, bank, or other valuable accounts. Downloading a VPN app is one of the best cybersecurity tips that can help you use any WiFi connection privately.

3. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is a great feature that improves phone security. This method verifies your identity by using an additional authentication step, such as a password or fingerprint, to ward off hackers. To turn on two-factor authentication, go to Settings > Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store > Password & Security > Turn On Two-Factor Authentication.

4. Use a Longer Passcode

If you're still using a four-digit passcode to log into your Apple device, it's time to upgrade to a longer one. Longer passcodes are much harder to guess, which can keep your phone secure if someone else tries to enter it. To update your passcode, go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Change Passcode >Passcode Options > Custom Numeric Code.

5. Check Out Apple's Password Manager

iOS 13 (soon to be iOS14) includes a helpful feature that lets you manage your passwords better. To access your saved passwords, go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Website & App Passwords.

If you notice a warning symbol next to any of your passwords, that means you've used that password somewhere else. The best way to stay safe online is to use a new password for each account. This update allows you to change your passwords quickly and keep an eye out for duplicates.

6. Turn Off Automatic Syncing to iCloud

iCloud is great for freeing up storage space on your devices, but you have to be careful about what content gets uploaded there. Once data is uploaded to the cloud, it's permanent even if you delete it later. To turn off automatic syncing to iCloud, go to Settings > Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store > iCloud > and switch iCloud Backup off.

7. Turn Off Cookies in Your Web Browser

Cookies can help you stay logged into sites and improve the ads you see, but these files can also contain important personal information. To turn off cookies, go to Settings > Safari > and switch Block All Cookies on.
